About
About
Özgür Üniversite is a volunteer academic space opened by the Turkey and Middle East Forum Foundation. Against the commodification of science and art, it runs open lectures, seminars, research and publishing.
Our mission
We build a volunteer space of resistance against the commodification of science and art and the marketization of the academy. We are independent of state and capital; instructors work voluntarily, and the symbolic contribution from students covers only basic costs such as rent, heating and communication. Membership is open to all.
What we publish
Critical theory, Marxist and ecological thought, the critique of postmodernism; the politics of Turkey and the Middle East; philosophy and the philosophy of science; art and aesthetic criticism. Alongside lectures, seminars and conferences, we publish articles, dossiers, translations and seminar recordings.
Our editorial approach
Every piece we publish moves through author, editor and publication; it stays faithful to its sources, accessible and lasting. Independence is our principle: no commercial or institutional interest dictates our editorial line.
Science and art cannot be bought with money.
